The UK Nationals began life as the UK GT, starting in 2011, and changing its name to the UK Nationals in 2017 in line with Wyrd’s request to have each country’s premier event as its Nationals.
The first UK GTs were organised by Jo-anne O’Brien in Mansfield before being run by Mike or David at various venues as the event grew in size and circumstances changed.
The event has always welcomed an international field, with players from various countries attending, including France, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Germany, Spain, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Bahrain, Hungary and USA. Therefore there is a prize for the highest placed overseas player.
Wyrd have been a strong supporter of the event, and for the last 5 events have provided a winner’s belt in addition to prize support. We seek sponsorship from other appropriate companies, and also aim to support a charity each year, having raised over £4,000 for Willen Hospice in recent years.
